Refresh Your Workspace with Feng Shui
As summer break winds down and routines shift back into work and school, there’s no better time to give your workspace a fresh start. A Feng Shui refresh can breathe new life into your office, boosting focus, clarity, and productivity.
Most of us spend countless hours behind a desk, whether working from home or in an office. And just like our homes, our workspaces carry energy that influences how we feel and perform.
One of the most powerful ways to transform your office using Feng Shui is through desk placement, and that means putting yourself in the commanding position.
Harness the Power of the Commanding Position
Your desk is the anchor of your workspace. Where you place it directly affects how supported, empowered, and productive you feel. In Feng Shui, the commanding position symbolizes stepping into your own power and being ready for whatever comes your way.
Here’s how to set it up:
- Face the door (without being directly in line with it).
Position your desk so you can see the office door while seated. This simple shift represents being able to “see what’s coming” – opportunities, challenges, and new beginnings. If it isn’t impossible to face the door, place a small mirror on your desk to reflect the entrance.
- Support your back.
A solid wall behind your chair provides strength and stability. Sitting with your back to the door or window can make you feel vulnerable or unsettled. It’s very common to push the desk against a wall/window to save space. But, if space allows it, turn the table around so the back is facing the wall. Tip: Have your back face your personal best direction (based on the Kua number), if you know it.
- Avoid direct alignment with the door.
While it’s important to see the door, sitting in direct line with it exposes you to fast-moving energy. This constant rush of energy can leave you drained or restless. If your desk must align with the door, hang a crystal from the ceiling, between the door and your desk (it doesn’t need to hang too low) to soften the energy flow.
Why the Commanding Position Matters
When you place your desk in the commanding position, you’re symbolically placing yourself in control of your work, your energy, and your future. It’s about stepping into visibility, welcoming opportunities, and protecting yourself from distractions or draining influences.
Feng Shui is about creating a space that feels good, supports your intentions, and empowers you to do your best work.
