Welcome back to part two! In June we talked about the importance of Feng Shui in purchasing a home based on the history of the home and its surroundings. This month, we take a closer look at the benefits of Feng Shui in the interior and exterior of a home, the shape and floor plan of the home, the architecture of the home, and the overall appearance of the home.

HOME EXTERIOR

In Feng Shui we want to see an inviting view of the front of the home. The main entrance should be easy visible as well as the house number. Ideally, there should be a curvy path leading to the front door and the entrance should be free of trees or poles in direct line with the door. Feng Shui loves balance and therefore the shape of the home/apartment should be a square or as close to it as possible. Stay away from homes with funky or asymmetrical shapes as this will make it difficult for the energy to flow freely.

HOUSE INTERIOR

One of the key elements when looking for a house is to make sure that the home receives enough natural light as it will benefit your general well-being. A clear floor plan that makes sense and is not confusing is also supportive in Feng Shui. As mentioned in my previous blogs, the main entrance to a home is the most important part of Feng Shui as that is where the energy enters. A bright and open entryway will help the energy to spread around the rest of the home smoothly. Also, be aware that a front door aligned with a back door is not supportive in Feng Shui because the energy will rush to the back door and escape that way. Avoid homes with a staircase in direct line with the front door as the energy will move up too quickly and leaves the main floor without energy. Bedrooms should not be located above a garage or share a wall with a bathroom. If a room must share a wall with a bathroom – make sure it is not the wall where the toilet and sink is located. Slanted ceilings and exposed beams are not very favorable, especially in the bedroom or in the sitting area. The best location for the kitchen is in front of the home.

I hope these tips will help you find a home with good Feng Shui. There are many variables to consider when purchasing a home but these essential Feng Shui tips will hopefully steer you in the right direction.
